Our challenge was to design a luxury 5-bedroom low-carbon house that encompassed the glorious southerly views, while providing a unique family home for first-rate, modern contemporary living. However, having liaised with Cotswold District Council, our design was required to blend effortlessly into its surroundings.
We rose to the challenge by using the strong perpendicular solid boundary wall around the north and east of the property to form a secure wrap, from which the private spaces could be organised. The approved arrangement of spaces within the development then took advantage of the natural slope of the southerly land to maximise the views beyond.
We organised the internal spaces for maximise comfort – with the bedrooms set in the subterranean quarter where it’s cool, the active living areas facing south and the resting living areas to the north. The first floor attic rooms were reserved for occasional guest usage.
The Poolhouse won a 2019 International Property Award, and a 2019 WhatHouse? Award for Best Luxury House.
